ギター・リュートの評論家第一人者、濱田滋郎氏が、 ダウランドはイギリスのバッハであり、ショパンで あると評されているが、一方でバッハやヴァイスよりも１２０年以上も古い音楽とは思えない斬新さを併せ持つ。
そのダウランド作品の中でもヤコブリンドベルイの演奏は名演中の名演。リュート曲は録音技術の音響テクニックに頼り、誤魔化す録音が多いとも言われるが、ヤコブリンドベルイの場合は、それとは対照的に、正攻法の録音の中で、技術、歌心等、そしてルネサンス時代の”音”を今に伝えてくれる。
