1939年に初録音を経て、僅か2年間で、エレクトリックギターの歴史とジャズの歴史を変えた伝説のギタリスト、チャーリークリスチャン。それまで影の薄い楽器だったギターを、管楽器にも負けないリード楽器としてワンランク押し上げた最大の功労者である。モダンジャズギターの基礎を作り、その後のジャズギターの巨人たち、ウェスモンゴメリー、バーニーケッセル、ケニーバレル、グラントグリーン、ジムホール等に多大な影響を与えた。チャーリークリスチャンがいなければ、今のジャズギターは存在しないと言っても過言ではないし、もしかしたら、この世に「ギターソロ」という概念すら生まれていなかったかも知れない。

本作は、そのチャーリークリスチャンの（エアチェックやライヴも含め）全ての音源を録音順にリリースしていくという企画で発売されたVol.1~9までの全９枚セット。英語とフランス語による詳細なライナーノーとソロオーダーまで記したディスコグラフィー掲載。チャーリークリスチャン・マニアにとっての貴重でレアなコレクターズ・アイテム。
