本作は、フランクザッパ率いるマザーズ・オブ・インヴェンション名義の3作目にあたる1968年盤。言わずと知れたザッパの初期代表作にしてロック史に残る名作。見開きジャケットの内側にもあるように、まさにビートルズの「Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band」への回答とも取れるパロディ的内容。「The Chrome Plated Megaphone Of Destiny」では、敬愛するエドガーヴァレーズからの影響も感じ取れるサウンドコラージュが聴ける。
